What the people say.

The construction of the Berbice River Bridge is rapidly progressing and is expected to aid economic development through the accessibility and fostering of greater investment and increasing production for the people of Region Six when it becomes operational in August 2008.
This achievement is also set to bring much relief to Berbicians as it would eliminate the delay which persons would endure while using the ferry service.
Berbicians see the construction of the Berbice River Bridge a promise made by this administration, as a positive move that would bring about personal and national development.

Zulficar Mustapha, Regional Chairman, Region Six

I am elated about the construction of the Berbice River Bridge; I think this will help our region to take off economically; new investment will come to Berbice. People from Berbice would get easy access to Georgetown so this would open new developments for us.

Desmond Benn, Administrator (ag) Corentyne Technical Institute

Definitely more trade and development will take place in Berbice. Travelling with the ferry has always been a great set back so the bridge will assist tremendously; persons will be encouraged to travel for instance from all the way to Linden and back without any delays.

Isaac Sookdeo, Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder

Well the Berbice Bridge will benefit all the Berbicians and the people of Guyana. I am a truck driver and one of the reasons why I do not go to Georgetown is because it is fatiguing. The Berbice Bridge would be far better than the ferry you can do more business, farmers can take their produce to Georgetown on time so the bridge will be better than the ferry.”

Phillip Charles Oodho, Mibicuri, North Black Bush Polder

That is very good because it will assist very much. Sometimes you go to the ferry and you find long lines but now when the bridge build you don’t have to worry about that. This will benefit the farmers significantly, because when you go on the boat with your perishable goods they get damaged because of the long wait on the steamer. With the bridge you can go to Georgetown and get back quickly and still are able to do some work at home.

Lall Bahadeo Singh, Black Bush Polder

Berbice River Bridge, that is one of the most important structures to help the Corentyne people. We’ll have better expansion of business and better investment and it would save the cost to travel on the boat and we must thank President Jagdeo for what he has done.
