How to obtain a new Passport?

Step 1:
If someone is seeking to acquire a Passport for the first time (either for a child or adult), the first process is to purchase a form at the Passport Office located on Camp Street. There is a booth outside the building where a form could be purchased for $200.

On the form there is a list of persons who can be used as guarantors such as, a Minister of Religion and a Justice of Peace. It must be noted that the information requested on the form must be filled out accurately and correctly.

In the case of a married person he/she has to produce the spouse’s birth certificate and the marriage certificate as confirmation of being married.

Step 2:
Along with these documents the person also has to purchase a $1,000 Revenue stamp and produce two passport-sized photographs (recent photos are better).
With a completed application form, a $1,000 Revenue stamp, two photographs and a guarantor’s signature, and in the case of a married person, a marriage certificate and the spouse’s birth certificate, the applicant moves to step three.

Step 3:
With the relevant documents the applicant produces them to an Immigration Officer at the Passport Office and is given a date to uplift the passport.
The duration to process the application is 6 weeks.

If a passport is stolen or lost, the applicant does not need the signature of a guarantor; instead he/she needs an affidavit. With that (affidavit) in possession, the applicant is then advised to go to a Police station to report the matter. The Police station in turn will give the applicant a report to produce to the Passport Office.

With the affidavit, a $1,000 Revenue stamp, 2 passport sized photographs, the application form and the Police Report, the applicant may apply for a new Passport to the Immigration Officer. The duration for this process is nine months.

Additionally, if a passport is damaged, the applicant will have to fill out an application form. And along with an affidavit, $1,000 Revenue stamp, two passport-sized photographs, the applicant may apply for a new passport to the immigration officer. The processing period is six months.

It must be noted that a child under 12 years old must apply through his/her parent or guardian.
