Impressive CV, track record submitted
Georgetown, GINA, September 6, 2003
Executive Director of the Government Information
Agency (GINA) Dr. Prem Misir is among the applicants for the post
as Pro-Chancellor at the University of Guyana. Head of the Presidential
Secretariat and Cabinet Secretary today at his weekly post-Cabinet
Media briefing confirmed that Dr. Misir has applied for the post.
Dr. Misir who served as Permanent Secretary within the Ministry
of Information (now dissolved), was one of the key architects
of GINA, established in October of 2001. However, he tendered
his resignation to President Jagdeo effective September 30.
According to Dr. Luncheon, Government has recognized the sterling
contribution of Dr. Misir, who has his PhD in Behavioral Science
and a first degree in Economics, to both the academia and Guyana
and has expressed gratitude for the time he spent in the employ
of the Administration.
Dr. Misir has signalled his intentions to the Administration to
continue working in Guyana, although his interests are quite wide,
with particular focus on the academic field. One of his options,
Dr. Luncheon noted is the post as Pro-Chancellor at Guyana’s
highest institution of learning – UG.
“ He has brought to the list of candidates an exceptionally
good curriculum Vitae and a track record. So he in under active
consideration and the consultations with stakeholders led by the
Ministry of Education is ongoing. A decision has not been made,”
Dr. Luncheon said.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that the remunerative package of the
Pro-Chancellor post cannot be favourably compared to that of the
Executive Director of GINA, and therefore, should Dr. Misir be
accepted to this post, Government “would have to be engaging
its mind in some other appointment because the Pro-Chancellor’s
appointment is part-time, a substantive appointment that would
make use of his considerable resources and at the same time some
equivalent conditions that he has enjoyed as executive Director
of GINA.”
