Use your passport sparingly - Ministry of Home Affairs
Georgetown, GINA, September 1, 2003
The Ministry of Home Affairs is appealing to
persons to use their Passports only when it is necessary.
This response came to light of an article published complaining
of the long lines and poor service at the Passport office.
However, persons are advised to take care of their Passports.
Some factors that can create some problems with Passports are
the handling of the Passports by persons who have to verify the
persons identity.
In many cases when persons go to the Embassies to get a visa,
their Passports are checked for authenticity.
Therefore, persons if possible, should use some other kind of
identification to transact business the Ministry of Home Affairs
advises. There is a limited amount of passports available; this
is due to the heavy demand for ‘Passports’. Therefore
it would take some time to replace a lost or damaged passport.
It must be noted when a Passport is lost it takes nine months
and a damaged one takes six months to replace.
This process is time-consuming because time is taken in the preparation
and production of such a document.
