The Ministry of Education

Dr. Henry Jeffrey is attending the Third Interamerican Meeting of
Education Ministers
for the Integral Development (ICID) of the Organization
of American States (OAS).

The Minister of Education, Dr. Henry Jeffrey is attending the Third Interamerican Meeting of Education Ministers, within the framework of the Interamerican Council for the Integral Development (ICID) of the Organization of American States (OAS).This meeting will take place in Mexico City from August 11 to 13th, 2003: and will provide the Ministers of the Americas with a forum to discuss an agenda of educational policy issues which are relevant for all OAS member countries.

The Mexican Government, through its Secretariat of Public Education, is hosting the meeting.

CAS member states will examine experiences in educational areas and the responses to the challenges discussed at the Third Summit of the Americas, the meeting of the Heads of State and Government which was held in Quebec in 2001.

The Agenda for the Mexico Meeting of Ministers is the result of consensus adopted at the Preparatory Meeting held in April 2003 in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Ministers are expected to approve a joint Declaration.

During the meeting the Ministers will hear presentations on the status of education in the Hemisphere, Sub-regional challenges and prospects for educational funding in the region and will consider strategies for horizontal cooperation across the hemisphere, hemispheric projects on Teacher Education, Equity and Quality in Education, and Management in Secondary Education.
An Inter American Committee on Education (CIE) will be installed at the Mexico meeting to facilitate the follow-up to the decisions of the Mexico Summit.
