Ethnic Relations Commission to be fully comprised
President Bharrat Jagdeo, will soon swear
in the two outstanding nominees to the country’s first
Ethnic Relations Commission.
The newest Members are Ms. Lelia Austin the alternate member
representing women and Mr. Shahabudeen McDoom the Member representing
the Muslim Community.
The two did not take the oath of Office earlier, since they
were out of the country.
The swearing in of Ms. Austin and Mr. McDoom will make the
Ethnic Relations Commission fully composed. The other
members are:

Roy Takhurdyal, the substitute member from
the Christian community, Shafeek Khan substitute member from
the Muslim Community and Ramkissoon Maharaj member from the
Hindu Community were not sworn-in inirtially. They took the
Oath of Office on May 30.
The independent Commission, which will address race issues,
was appointed on May 2, following the agreement between President
Jagdeo and Leader of the PNC/R Mr. Robert Corbin on its composition.
The Commissioners are members and alternates nominated by
Parliament as representatives of the religious community,
organised labour, children, youth and women in Guyana.
