Minister
Westford call for punctuality:
an extension of one made by President Jagdeo
A GINA release, January 15, 2003
The call by Public Service Minister Jennifer
Westford for public servants to be at work on time is an extension
of one made by President Bharrat Jagdeo in his New Year's address
to the nation.
In his address, President Jagdeo had said that there were certain
areas in which public servants must take a more aggressive approach.
He noted that in government services, the public should be treated
with respect and the process must be expeditious. This calls for
reporting at work at 8:00 hours.
"Public money and property must be used in the most efficient
manner. Corruption and poor performance must be weeded out,"
stressed the Head of State.
Minister Westford repeated the need for all public servants to
be at work on time at a staff meeting on January 14, at the Ministry
of Health. She urged workers to be more responsive, and to bring
greater efficiency to the sector.
Dr. Westford said that absenteeism, lateness and unauthorized
leave are factors that hinder the growth and development of the
public service.
She encouraged public servants to be at their desks at 8:00 am
sharp!
