Guyana sends message of condolence to Russia

Georgetown , GINA, September 5, 2004

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, performing the duties of President, has sent a message of condolence to President Valdimir Putin of Russia .

The message reads:

“ Excellency, the Government and people of Guyana join me in extending sincere condolences to the people of the Russian Federation and in particular to the people of the city of Belsan , on the death of hundreds of their citizens caused by the horrific and callous action of terrorists.

At this time of national mourning, please be assured that our thoughts are with you. I wish you continued strength and wisdom in bringing to justice those who are responsible for this tragedy.

This incident will serve to give even greater impetus to the efforts of the international community to combat terrorism and terrorists' acts by those who would attempt to hold the democratic process to ransom.

Please accept Excellency, the assurances of my highest considerations”.

Russia was plunged into mourning when more then 320 children, parents and teachers were killed at the end of a 53-hour siege.
